Department of Art, Sport & Tourism Sports Capital Programme
The National Lottery-funded Sports Capital Programme provides funding to voluntary sporting and community organisations at local, regional and national level throughout the country towards the provision of sport and recreational facilities. A total of €6,501,000 was allocated to Limerick between 48 clubs and organisations in 2007.

Limerick City Sports Partnership run Sports Capital Grant Workshops in order to assist clubs with their funding applications. Coach & Leader Education Grants 2008
Limerick City Sports Partnership (LCSP), as part of its Club Development Programme, intends to provide grant assistance to coaches and leaders from clubs and organisations in the Limerick City area providing sport and physical activity opportunities. This scheme reflects, and will contribute to, the Strategic Plan 2007-2012 of the Limerick City Sports Partnership, the Irish Sports Council Building Sports for Life 2006-2008 and the National Coaching and Training Centre National Coaching Development Programme.

This grant scheme aims to increase participation and improve the management and administration of clubs and in particular, to develop structures in clubs/organisations for those target groups, which frequently don’t participate i.e. older people, women & girls, people with disabilities and people from disadvantaged areas.

If you are a club, community, group struggling to get your endeavour off the ground, it might be worth checking out the following sites. You may be in a position to apply for funding for your particular project.

SuperValu
SuperValu, sponsors of the Buntϊs Programme, have just launched their SuperValu Kids in Action programme, which is designed to get primary school children involved in sport and active play. This programme offers an opportunity to resource sports equipment for use by primary schools in Limerick, which can compliment the Buntϊs equipment and other sports equipment held by the school. The programme also offers a nutrition education programme to help develop good eating habits.

Schools can access this equipment through an in-store collector scheme running from January 16th to March 26th in all SuperValu stores in Waterford City & County. AIB Better Ireland Awards
The Awards are open to a diverse range of projects, from culture, tourism, and community development to communications, social and youth based projects. Entrants are assessed in three categories on the basis of size of group and impact of the project on the community. Awards start at £1,000.

Iomairt Cholmcille/Columba Initiative
The Columba Initiative is a tripartite project between NI, the Republic and Scotland, which aims to promote links between Gaelic-speaking communities in Ireland and Scotland. In Northern Ireland, the project is run by the Ultach Trust. Irish or Scottish Gaelic must be the medium or focus of each project. Projects must be at least bipartite, linking Scotland with either Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland. Priorities will be given to projects linking all three regions. There is no upper limit on how much can be applied for. Applications can be made at any time.

Tesco Awards
Tesco makes awards available to local community projects that are based in areas where Tesco has stores and whose core work supports the welfare of children, elderly people and people with disabilities. Awards range from £2,000 to £5,000.

Co-operation Ireland
Co-operation Ireland works to encourage cross-border co-operation and understanding. It delivers the Cross Border Business and Cultural Links initiative under the European Union Special Support Programme for Peace and Reconciliation.

Applications in relation to arts projects must endeavour to be cross-community in nature and all projects must have a clearly defined and quantifiable socio/economic/environmental impact on both sides of the border. Grants range from £500 - £250,000. Applications can be made at any time.

Co-operation Ireland also administers the Youth, Education and Community Programme which provides small grants averaging £500 to groups involved in cross-border projects. Applications are assessed on a quarterly basis.

This Programme offers three schemes of once-off grants to local community and voluntary organisations for:

BDO Get BACk Challenge Grants 2009
BDO GET BACK CHALLENGE GRANTS TO INCREASE PARTICIPATION FOR SPORTING DISADVANTAGED

EQUIPMENT AND TRAINING (ONCE-OFF)

FOR LOCAL SPORTS GROUPS/CLUBS IN LIMERICK CITY

The BDO Get BACk Challenge & Limerick City Sports Partnership would like to invite Local Sports Clubs/Youth Groups & Organisations to apply for funding for:
• Purchase of essential equipment
• Provision of training & skills development opportunities
• Provision for providing coach development opportunities
• Other innovative action linked to club development plans

To increase participation in sporting activities by Sporting Disadvantaged People – Target groups are:
• Young people from a disadvantaged background/area under 18 yrs
• People with a disability

We request that any clubs wishing to apply for a grant should make contact with the development officers from the Limerick City Sports Partnership in their area, as priority will be given to clubs who show a willingness to work with the development officers on developing a club plan.

Funding for this scheme is once-off and has been made available from the BDO Get BACk Challenge. Committee’s decision on acceptance of any application is final.
