The Active Leadership Award has been developed by the Irish Sports Council and Sports Council for Northern Ireland to provide a panel of trained, knowledgeable and enthusiastic community based leaders, whose aim is to encourage people to become and remain involved in sport and physical activity. The course is designed to ensure that leaders will have the necessary competencies to plan and lead safe, enjoyable sport and physical activity sessions.
Who Should Attend This Course?
• Adult leaders who work or wish to work in a wide range of locations including local clubs, community groups, workplaces, community centres & sports’ clubs
Certificate
A ‘Certificate of Competence’ will be awarded on completion of a satisfactory course assessment.
Participants are assessed throughout the course on attendance, application, leading a warm up session, planning ability and leadership skills.
Information about the course
• The training involves both practical and theoretical sessions, and takes approximately 10-12 hours to complete.
• Those wishing to train, as a leader must be: over 18 years at the start of the training course and should already have a link with a group.
• Specific sporting skills are not required. Interest, enthusiasm, communication skills and the intention to use the Award are more important.
• The training will be a practical and enjoyable experience.
• At the end of the course, the successful leader should be able to plan and lead safe and enjoyable activity sessions.
• Cost: €30 per person

| Hurling Goalkeeping Workshop Mar 6th 2010 |
The Cúl Báire Iomaíocht initiative will be launched with a one day intensive coaching workshop at the University of Limerick on Saturday March 6th. It is aimed at those wishing to increase their hurling goalkeeping coaching and playing expertise, particularly at the U12-14 year old age group. It will involve a mixture of classroom based presentations and practical session demonstrations. The session demonstrations will involve coaching the core skills at six different stations. Sub-groups of coaches will rotate and view sessions. Coaches will then coach those sessions to the players afterwards with feedback from tutors/expert coaches. All coaching equipment will be provided. Coaches to his/her own bring appropriate outdoor & indoor clothing. Expect to see some legendary goalkeepers present on the day!

A 10k, Half- Marathon or Marathon run involves consistent regular training and a balance of preparation and recovery. Less than 6 weeks away to the Great Limerick Run, Limerick City Sports Partnership is organising this workshop as a final chance for recreational joggers in the 10k to marathon runners to improve for their event of choice.
Course description:
Course will cover the balance of training and rest, particularly for half and full marathon. The most important tips and practical advice on nutrition and hydration for endurance events will be discussed. Question&Answer session allows participants to benefit from the advice of experienced coaches and runners.

Assistant Coach Course
Aim
The aim of the assistant coach course is to give some basic skills to the beginner coach to help assist a more senior coach in the delivery of coaching sessions to young Athletes. It is an introduction to the coaching of three key events, running (Sprints and Endurance), Jumping (Long Jump) and Throwing (Shot Putt).
Content
The content for this course includes;
• group coaching skills and identifying ways to make coaching sessions fun
• Fun and functional warm ups and cool downs
• Safety in Athletics
• Rules of key events
• Communicating with young athletes and giving effective feedback.

Course Details:
The Code of Ethics and Good Practice for Children's Sport in Ireland is the first All Ireland guideline for sporting bodies, developed by the Irish Sports Council & the Sports Council for Northern Ireland. The aim of the Code is to ensure that there is widespread good practice at all levels and that clubs have a clear direction in the policy and procedures that they will be expected to adopt.
It is also designed to provide guidance for leaders working with young people in the sports sector. It outlines issues that need to be addressed to maintain and enhance an enjoyable approach to sports. The principles stated in the Code are essential for the delivery of quality leadership sport programmes children. A central goal for all those involved in sport for young people is to provide a safe, positive and nurturing environment where children can develop and enhance their physical and social skills.
The course is aimed at Sports Leaders, Children’s Officers, Parents & anyone working with young people in sport. The Child Welfare & Protection in Sports Awareness Training will enable Children’s Officers/Sports Leaders to:
• Implement best practice in protecting the welfare of participants
• Create a child-centered environment within the sports club
• List categories of abuse and some indicators associated with abuse
• Make appropriate response to a disclosure
• Make a report to designated officer or appropriate Statutory Authorities

each can be used to build confidence levels.

Enda is regarded as one of Ireland’s top performance consultants in both business and sport settings.

personal level, Enda has been a member of the Armagh Senior Football team for fifteen years and
has enjoyed a successful sporting career, winning one All-Ireland medal, one All-Star award and six
Ulster titles. Enda is also a highly regarded business consultant and has worked with a number of
renowned companies in Ireland, Europe and the USA. Enda also serves as the Performance
Consultant on RTE’s popular Operation Transformation series.
Kevin Clancy
Kevin is a Sport Psychologist/Mental Coach. He has a wide range of experience in the field, having
consulted with a variety of athletes from a number of different sports, including professional rugby,
golf, soccer, inter-county GAA, athletics, boxing, tennis, darts, kayaking, cricket, pole vaulting,
rally driving and handball. He is currently the Sport Psychology consultant to Swim Ireland’s High
Performance Programme in Dublin. Previously, Kevin worked with IMG, the leading sports
marketing firm in the world, at one of their academies in Florida. Here, he worked alongside some
of the leading performance consultants in the field and got a unique perspective into what it takes to
realise potential at all levels of sport.
Justin McNulty
Justin played for Armagh for ten years, winning an All Ireland medal in 2002 and 5 Ulster titles. He
has managed and coached GAA successfully at senior club level and was recently appointed trainer
of the Armagh Senior Football Team.
