Event Report: Greenhills Hotel 5k June 30th, Southill Area 5k July 7th
Almost 200 people so far have taken part in a Get BACk Race Challenge event. 140 walkers and runners lined out at the Greenhills Hotel for the first event on June 30th. The 5k took us through Caherdavin on a rolling route. Mike Cunningham was first over the line in 16min 46sec, followed by Niall O’Callaghan and Michal Rejmer. Jack Thompson from Doon was the top junior boy in 18:25. Many thanks to Greenhills Hotel & Leisure staff, in particular Barbara Shine, for hosting a wonderful first event. Loretto Duggan came from Broadford to win the Greenhills event and also won this week in Southill. Registration took place in the Southill Area Centre which is home to some top handball players and provided a comfortable place to register and gather post-run. Despite continuous light rain, 110 runners and walkers completed the rolling loop in Carew Park and O’Malley Park. Local man Dermot Kerins came in first ahead of Mike Cunningham with the time of 17:15. Cian Ryan finished 3 overall, which was a great achievement for a junior boy. 4 junior girls took part in the Southill event- special mention to Juliana Gleeson and Rebecca O’Shea and their friends for completing the hilly course.
Next weeks event at Analog Devices in the Raheen Industrial Estate will be a family friendly event with music and light refreshments for participants completing the 6k event. Enter early online at www.limerickcitysports.ie to avoid the queues, or from 6pm on the night. Race starts 7pm sharp. Complete 5 of the 8 events to receive the souvenir City of Sport Tshirt.
